The first soda pop made in the U.S. was Vernor's Ginger Ale, created in Detroit, Michigan in 1866 by James Vernor. He sold it in his drug store for 30 years before opening a factory to produce it on a larger scale. — www.foodreference.com
I *love* ginger ale.
Maybe it reminds you of having the stomach flu. OK, it does to me, too, a little. Ginger does settle the stomach. But I love it.
I can't decide which brand I like better — Schweppes or Canada Dry. Schweppes is a little sweeter. Canada Dry, a little dryer. Imagine that. Drinking ginger ale through a straw is best. My mom laughs at me when I drink it through a straw. She looks at me and says, "Is that your little Disney World party over there?" I don't get it, either.
I think my fascination with ginger ale roots back to childhood. Grandpa and Grandma M. always had a refrigerator stocked with ginger ale. They were white cans, with some gold and green trim. I don't remember the brand, but my dad says it was Canada Dry. So maybe Canada Dry will be my ginger ale of choice.
I bought Demeter "Ginglerale" perfume in Vegas. I spray it on the inside of my turtleneck so I can smell it all day. Weird. I know.
I love ginger ale.

SNOW DAY!!!
Otto's snowshoes rock. Who needs four-wheel drive when you have a GTI and Dunlop Winter Sport M2s?
It looks like a snowglobe out there. Too bad I am stuck at work. I want to go outside and play. At least on snow days kids visit the newsroom. And instead of editing stories and making pages I get to talk about SpongeBob and get hugs and I just taught 6-year-old Catherine how to do the Las Ketchups dance. And I turned as red as my red sweater, because everyone was watching, but it was worth it.
Hey, ha, hey, hey...
